Some members feel it would be helpful to talk about their past, particular problems or coming to terms with disabilities or other issues and, with their agreement, we can arrange confidential counselling sessions at the centre.
All are carried out by independent counsellors who are members of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy, a registered charity - and everything discussed remains private to the member.
But our team of friendly visiting counsellors are prepared to go beyond the mainstream service if there are members with severe communication problems.
For example, it may be helpful for one of the staff to join the session initially to help interpret the expression of feelings and concerns until the member and counsellor are comfortable and confident in working together.
Members can also choose to go along to occasional group counselling sessions where common issues and ideas can be shared for mutual benefit.
